QA/FOR FOUNDERS BUILDING AI PRODUCTS
How long does it take to build a production AI agent?
A production AI flow for a SaaS product takes 4 weeks to ship when built by an experienced solo design engineer. That's the AI Flow Sprint timeline on surinder.design. Week 1 decide and scope, week 2 design every state and the prompt architecture, week 3 build on staging, week 4 refine and hand off with 2 weeks of post-ship support.
The four-week timeline is built around one focused AI flow, not generic web app scope. It assumes one flow (not three), one primary integration where needed, and a founder who can answer questions and make decisions inside a 24-hour loop. With those assumptions, four weeks is realistic, and it's the delivered timeline on every Flow Sprint.
Week-by-week breakdown. Week 1: lock the single flow, the users, and the definition of success. One-page brief by Friday. Week 2: design the flow, every interface state (idle, thinking, streaming, citations, partial results, errors, recovery), the trust and control patterns, the prompt architecture. Reviewed before anything gets built. Week 3: the live build goes up on staging. Edge cases and recovery made real. Week 4: polish, repo handoff, walkthrough recording, 2 weeks of post-ship support.
Longer engagements (AI-Native Product Design, 8 to 12 weeks) are for the full product surface, designed through a clickable prototype, when the engagement is figuring out what to build before engineering builds it. The Embedded Design Partner runs monthly and rolling for ongoing work. The right engagement is decided in a 30-minute scoping call.
