What is an Agentic AI Design Engineer?

An Agentic AI Design Engineer is one person who designs and ships production AI agents and AI-native products end to end, without a handoff. Research, product design, prompt architecture, and frontend code all live in the same head, so the design IS the build.

Traditional AI product teams split the work across a UX designer, a product manager, an AI/ML engineer, and a frontend engineer. Each handoff loses fidelity, adds weeks, and creates the gap where products go to die. An Agentic AI Design Engineer collapses those four roles into one — a designer who codes, with deep AI fluency.

The role exists because AI-native products break the old division of labor. When the interface is conversational and the behavior is probabilistic, you can't 'spec' the design and throw it over the wall. The prompt architecture IS the product design. The fallback states ARE the UX. They have to be authored by the same person, in the same loop, with the engine running.

What that looks like in practice: working React code committed daily, prompts iterated against real LLM output, retrieval and memory layers tuned alongside the UI. No Figma file as the source of truth — the source of truth is the production deploy. This is the model behind every engagement on surinder.design.
